Stacking Rings; the series concept.
This small selection of Stacking Rings is based on the notion of a silver aesthetic. Things made in silver have a different feel to items made in gold. Silver is white, it has a unique lustre, and it has volume. It also ages gracefully as recesses or decoration oxidise over time and the raised parts become slightly worn. I wanted to explore and highlight these qualities whilst using small additions of gold as accents.
Stacking Rings; Silver-aesthetic versions:
These examples are predominantly three band rings. The outer bands are silver with the central band as a patterned oxidised silver compliment or as an 18K yellow gold accent. The bands can be without stones but often have a single stone set on one of the outer bands. Scroll to see later developments.
Silver Aesthetic with a zoomorphic theme:
This small selection of Stacking Rings is a fun divergence from the Silver Aesthetic series. It arose whilst making reductive line drawings of fishes and birds. Around this time I also became aware of the strange and mysterious line drawings of birds, spiders and whales carved into the arid sands of the Peruvian desert by the ancient Nazca people. Highly stylised and measuring kilometres in size, their purpose is still little understood. I found them very evocative and decided to create my own stylised creatures within the construct of my Stacking Rings.
